Washi Tape Flags

Hello,
I made a quick video showing how I created the Washi Tape Flags on my layout.  I was all into trying new things for this layout.  First I made a two page spread of 8.5x11. That's a different size for me. I'm  normally a 12x12 girl. Then I was playing around with washi tape. Even though I think they're really cute I never jumped on the band wagon but my Studio Calico kits started containing them so I thought it would be fun to play around and see what I can come up with. Then I got into the whole octagon thing too. Never used that shape on any layout in any form whether it was embellishments or pattern paper. I gotta say. Love it.  I think the last thing I tried was the splattering. Also very cool.

Heidi Swapp inspired mini

I've been addicted to Mycraftchannel.com's Create to Remember Channel. Heidi Swapp is the host of that one. Love it. She's got two videos that inspired this mini. Clip Frames and Back to Back Book Binding.

My Mini:

I purchased the frame at Ikea. It's called Virserum. It was only $2 and it's for 5x7 pictures. I used a bit Vintage Photo Distress ink since it was so white in comparison to the mini and wiped off the extra with a paper towel. I also distressed the mat and put a bit of scrap paper where the picture would be so when the album is removed there is still something pretty to look at. I did one change that I felt would work better for me.  Instead of hot glueing the clip on to the frame I ran a piece of Seam Binding through the frame and tied onto the clip. I could not get the clip to stay when I was playing around taking the mini in and out.  I tried not to make it too dimensional but I did add a few buttons and gems and I think that's the reason that It was so hard to take it out and put it back on without the clip de attaching from the frame.

For the album I used my Cameo to cut the pages. I used one of the files from 12x12 background frames and just sized it to fit within my frame. I used Recollection's Kraft cardstock for all my pages. Scored it in half using my Martha Stewart Scoring Board. I distressed all the edges with Vintage Photo Distress ink.  For the layering pattern paper I cut the same shape slightly smaller out of Kraft and then I layered them over the pattern paper and cut them by hand. That way I could control which way the design is facing and reserve the paper also. 90% of my pattern paper and embellishments I got from my Studio Calico kits: Handmade, Thimble, and Pin Cushion

For the cover I hand made the Rosettes using my Martha Steward scoring board and the valley and hill technique using various withs and lengths of pattern paper to achieve the different sizes. The leaves are white Prima mulberry leaves I sprayed with Olive Vine Glimmer Mist.  The photos were all edited to 2.5x2.5.

Now to pack this up and send it off to My husband's Grandma as a birthday gift.

Creating 3D flowers

Hello,
I have a quick video today demonstrating how you can create 3D flowers out of flat flower shapes, but first I want to give you a background on the picture. My daughter has been big on taking pictures lately. She's got one of our old digital cameras. It's really big and bulky but it's easy for her to hold. One day she was playing around taking picture and she took this wonderful picture of herself. I knew right away I needed to print it and make a layout with it.

Lawnscaping Challenge #21

Hello,
I created this card for the current challenge over at Lawscaping challenge blog. The theme is Thank You. I was late with this and missed the deadline but I still wanted to share it with you guys.

My card:

My mom is hosting Thanksgiving this year and I needed to make a card and this is what I came up with. The idea of this card was for it to look like a door with a wreath hanging on the front of it.  Kinda came across. I feel like something is missing but I just can't put my finger on it.  For the card base I used The Paper Company Kraft cardstock. For the pattern paper I used Studio Calico's Wild Flower from the Countryside collection. I cut the card layer the same dimension as the card base and then cut 4 rectangles smaller to make them look like the panel popped up with pop dots. Added a Tim Holtz Hitch Fastener to make it look like it was the door knob. For the wreath I stamped the Turkey from Turkey Days Lawn Fawn Stamp on Copic Xpress Blending Card. Colored in with my Copic Sketch markers. Distressed over top of it with Vintage Photo distress ink and cut it out with Spellbinders Nestabilities Standard Circles LG. For the wreath I used two different Nestabilities set. Classic Inverted Scalloped LG and Beaded Circles cut out of Studio Calico's Atmosphere pattern paper from the Elementary Collection.  Attached some hemp twine so that it looked like it was hanging by the top of the door. The banner at the bottom was created using Papertrey Ink's Double-Ended Banners, two white prima leaves colored with my copics, a button created with Epiphany Craft's 14mm Button Studio Tool Round and a custom sentiments using Lawn Fawn's Harold's ABC stamp set stamped with Jenni Bowlin's Chili Powder ink.

Copic colors used:
E25, E27, E29
R24, R27, R29
YG63
YR04
Colorless  Blender

Studio Calico Challenge Card

For this weeks's challenge we're to dig into our stash and use a stamp that was in main kit or add-on. I have not been a subscriber for that long so I didn't have that much to choose from. I decided to use the stamp from Thimble add-on kit.

My card:

I pretty much used the Thimble kit for the whole card. The card base was created with The Paper Company Kraft cardstock. I stamped the border stamp with Frost Versamark. The pattern paper are scraps from a layout I had just finished. I stamped the small stamp on the back of the pattern paper so that when I cut the stamp out I would get the shape but not the stamped image, if that makes sense.  Added some pearls from the Pin Cushion add-on kit. Tied a bow with some tule and finished it up with the sentiment.

That's all for today. Thanks for stopping by:

Studio Calico Layout

For today's project I created a layout based on Studio Calico's Sunday's sketch.

My layout:

I kept it pretty simple this time. I was putting a lot of the layouts I've created away and found myself with album almost full with barely any layouts in it. I'm going to have to make some dimensional and some flat so that I can fit more in there if not I'm going to end up with 4 albums per year per kid.  I used the Greenhouse add-on kit. The only thing from my stash was the brown and blue cardstock.  For the large scallops on the top of the layout I used Quickutz Scallop Edges Border Die and for the small scallops at the bottom of the page I used Fiskars Scallop Sentiment Border Punch. To finish it up I sewed a zig zag stitch around some of the edges.

That's it for today

Studio Calico Layout

Hello,
I created this layout for this week's sketch by Studio Calico.  Entries are due by Tomorrow 11-7-2011 if you want to play along.

Now on to my layout:

For this layout I used bit and pieces from Glee Club, Meadow Lark, Perennial (only image I could find) and Field Guide Studio Calico kits.  I cut the circle with my Fiskars Ultra Shape Express and Super Sized Circles Shape Templates. I stamped the arrows with VersaMark Frost ink pad and the planes were either cut from pattern paper or punches with Ek Sucess Airplane Medium Punch. To make my Photos look like tags I used Fiskars Squeeze Corner Punch Chip of the Ol' Block, attache some  We R Memory Keepers Grommets, Twill ribbon to the tops of the tags and sewed around edges with my sewing machine.  For the border strips I used the Fiskars Upper Crest borner punch. The picture looks like there is a huge shadow going across it and the shadow is actually in the picture itself. These were taken with my iphone. It doesn't provide the best quality photos but I love the fact that I don't miss a moment by searching for a camera or having it dead when it's in need.
