Thrifty Re-Do

I went thrifting this past Monday as always. I was really looking for sporting equipment for my daughter who's starting to play select softball, but my son saw this shield he absolutely had to have. It was pretty bad looking, but for 7 cents I said sure. Once I got home I decided to give it a little re-do.

Before:

    After:

I loved the end result. Kept it pretty simple. Didn't want to spend a lot of money and time on something he's probably only going to use once and get tired of. So I went looking around my craft room and found all the supplies I needed.  Sanded it down, use craft acrylic paint (4 coats), cut all the shapes with cardstock using my Cameo, the dragon was a full piece that I cut in half so I can add his name in between. Lastly I deluded Elmer's glue with a little water as a sealer. Did two coats and let it dry overnight.
Then I remembered about a sword we had bought for him last year at the Renaissance festival.  Decided to alter it as well.

Fallowed the same steps as I did for the shield.

Supplies:
-Americana craft paint in Winter Blue
-Making Memories craft paint in Cranberry
-Elmer's Glue-All glue
-Silhouette Shapes: Flame, Dragon and Bordeaux Roman Bold LET alphabet
-DCWV Red Cardstock

Thrifty Tuesday!

It's been a while. My hauls are mostly kids books and toys and such but I did come across a pretty awesome find.

Isn't she a beauty? She only cost me $2.25. She works pretty good. A few of the keys stick but I think a little TLC and it'll be perfect! I already have an electric one that I use to journal on my pages but she was too beautiful to pass up.  I'm really really hoping that I find a cursive one. I found this one digging around looking for a cursive one but no luck!

TGF & Lifestyle Crafts Birthday Card

Hello everyone,

Today I have a card and a video to share. I made this card for my niece that's turning 7 soon. Last year I made her a card and the girl had blonde hair and she got insulted since she's got red hair. LOL! This year I made sure that I gave the girl on her card some fiery red hair.

My Card

I did use Copics to color her in but I'm not an expert in Copic coloring so I didn't film that. I figured there are some real professionals out on YouTube land that will guide you better if you were looking to learn how to use them.  I'm still a true beginner. The rest of the making of the card is on the video.

Video:

 Supplies:
Copic Colors: Hair: YR04, YR07, YR09
                       Skin: E000, E00, E11
                       Apron: BG13, BG15, BG18
                       Lace & Trim: YG03
                       Socks & Shirt: Y13, Y15, Y17
                       Shoes: T5, T7

5. Moda gray wool coat

Thrifty Tuesday

Hello again. Yesterday I decided to venture out and try a few different thrift stores. There is a website pinned on Pinterest where you enter your zip code and they list the thrift stores around where you live. They showed me a few not to far from my house that I've never knew were there. I did find a few things at each but I don't think the new ones are going to be ones I visit often. Found the prices high and the sales not very good.

Here is the website if you're interested.
http://www.thethriftshopper.com/

My loot:

I got a lot of different little bags of craft stuff, embroidery thread, googley eyes, Etc.. So I'm not going to list everything but I'll list my best finds.

-long brown shelf $1.52. Ill be painting it a nice glossy white and hanging it in our master bath. The bathroom is so small with absolutely no storage. Ill be putting extra rolls of toilet paper, towels etc.
- 13x19 20 count Epson glossy photo paper n$3. They had more so I'm hoping it'll be there on their sale day to save some $$.
- 3 more Disney VHS's for my collection. 50 cents each.
- Ikea Trones shoe storage box $2.25.
On the website it's showing it comes in a 3 pack. I only saw one but can't complain for the price.
- a humongous oval embroidery hoop. 18x27 $1.50. Ill be making some sort of art for the walls. Not sure what but it was too cool to pass up.

Spent a total of $28.42.

-Fun and Fancy Free 52 cents

My new toy!

I'm so excited I can't barely stand it! I wanted something small to drive around town since both kids will be in school next year and I don't need to lug my gas guzzler to run errands. I knew I wanted a mini convertible, no questions. So we got to shopping. The first car sold the night before, the second car (the one I bought) was pretty good. Third car a newer model and they didn't even want to take $100 off. Fourth car, 2 hrs. away so misleading. The top didn't even snap into place, all scratched up and just not that good of a condition for what they're asking. Through the week we were looking online and there was really nothing in our price range with low miles. We decided to head back and look at the second car. Compared to what we've seen and researched it was just a no brainer. 2005 with only 16500 miles on it. Un real. They were even willing to negotiate the price and went down $1750 from the asking price. So I brought it home! It's an S with dual exhaust and manual. Love manual cars and I missed having it since getting the SUV. Of coarse this week it's supposed to rain. Figures.

It's Thrifty Tuesday!!

The kids are off for Spring Break and I've been super busy trying to keep them busy, softball season has started and I've barely had time to sit down, which is why this post is super late. I did take a trip for me yesterday and made it thrifting. I ventured out to two new thrift stores, to me, and I think the venture was a success, mainly because both kids were with me and we came out with a lot of books they wanted. I normally don't buy too many books for them unless they're with me. Specially for my daughter. She reeds like a maniac and has an intensive book collection and I'm to the point that I don't know what she has a doesn't have.

My loot:

What I got:

1. Sand Box Table (this  baby is selling for $77 on Amazon.com) I got it for $8. Major Score!
2. Puma shoes
3. Plum knee high boots
4. Hello Kitty Ty teddy
5. Brand New Christmas tree base
6.White/Black gray blazer
7.Pack of Christmas envelopes
8. 4 sets of Christmas Bingo Card games
9.18 Children/Adult books
10.George of the Jungle VHS
11. Kids chopsticks
12.Flower paper crimper
13. Two Desk Tapes (alphabets and numbers)

Total: $32.00

Easter Teacher Gifts 2013

Well,

This blog technically was a craft blog, did very little of those, then it eventually turned into a thrift find blog, not my original intent, now I'm going to try a mix of both.

For the first time in a very long time I have a craft to show!  I made some gifts for my kids teachers for Easter. I also filmed it!! I'm trying out a new camera tripod.  Hope the angle is better than what I've been using. I wanted something that had a wider angle so that I can capture two page layouts in full.

My Project:

Lawn Fawn Paper Collection: Bright side 6x6 paper pad
Lawn Fawn Cord: Vivid Tripple Pack
Mason Jars: Big Lots

Thrifty Tuesday

No Thrifty Tuesday today. I decided to take a few weeks off shopping and focus on the house and getting crafts done that I've either started or have been thinking of doing. I mean seriously I need more clothes and shoes like I need a hole in my head. LOL!  I'm in the middle of making my kids teachers their spring gifts. Planning on filming one of them tonight. Hopefully by tomorrow I'll have a new video and project to share.

Baby Gift

My sister in law had a baby a few weeks ago and we finally had the chance to drive up and see her on Friday. So cute! I wanted to whip up a little something to bring her. Being that it was her second daughter and she saved most of everything from the first one she really didn't need much. So I made her some embroidered burp clothes. I got inspiration from Pinterest, of coarse.

To make these I went to my local Joanns and bought baby cloth diapers. You get 4 for $7 and they let you use coupons! They also had their Joanns brand flannel fabric on sale for 60% off. They had some really cute designs. I bought a yard of each design and was able to make 8 burp clothes with enough fabric left over to be able to make 2 more.

My only tip aside from what you find online is to embroider on the right side of the burp cloth, the backside has the seam, first before the sewing. Other than that find the tutorial that best suits your level of sewing. They were quite easy to make but I wouldn't say quick. There is a lot of ironing aside from the embroidery which took some time.

The finished result:

Thrifty Tuesday

Well some days are better than others. Went to my typical thrift stores and came out with a pretty pathetic haul. I just could not find anything that I liked and everything was fitting funny. Oh well. I think next week I'm going to venture out and go to some other ones and see what treasures I find.

My haul:

1. Roxy bathing suit top: .52 cents
2. Bag of shirt and pant hangers: .75 cents
3. Cars slippers: $4
4. Gray belt: $2
5. Salt grinder: .37 cents

For a grand total of $8.11

That's all for me today.

Quick Embroidery Project

I just did a quick embroidery on some kitchen towels last night. Nothing fancy. I like using my machine atleast once a month to make sure all the parts are working correctly and catch any issues with the machine before the warranty is up. I decided that a little design would make these cheap towels seem a little fancier. Kept the designs small. I didn't want the design to over take the function. I still want to be able yo use the towels for their intended purpose. I used the stock designs of the machine of different kitchen motifs.

Thrifty Tuesday

Hello,
Things are getting back in order around here after being out of the country last week. I gotta say. I missed Thrifting so much.  So I made a run out on Monday. Got there a little later than I normally do. I was having a hard time getting my day started, but I made it out there and I got a few things.

My Purchases:
1. JCrew Yellow shirt: .07 cents
2. Mossimo Brown Shirt/sweater: .22 cents
3. Mossimo Silver Dress: $3.00
4. Mossimo Purple Shirt/sweater: .52 cents
5. Island Soul Bathing Suit Top: .52 cents
6. Antonio Melani Brown Knee High Boots: $6.00
7. Magimatic Old School Camera: .52 cents
8. Hungry Hungry Hippo: .75 cents (I buy games at cheap prices to have spare parts for the games the kids already have. They are always mis placing or loosing pieces and this helps keep completed games for really cheap. I just have a storage box with pieces of the games they own and replace them as needed.
9. Banana Republic Brown Leather Jacket: $17.50 (By far my most expensive piece. But the quality, cut and style is un real. Looked online saw their jackets going for over $300. The price could not be beat.)
10. Forever 21 Herringbone Blazer: $3

After taxes I paid: $34.11. Really good considering the leather jacket I got. Once it gets warm I'm going to try and take pics of outfits I've put together with my thrifty purchases and if I remember how much I paid for the pieces I'll put what my outfit cost as well.  I wanted to do that today with the leather jacket and boots, they look un real together, but it's way to cold, cloudy and windy.

House Work….

….YUK! I'm an awful Stay at Home Mom. I hate house work. Like with a passion.  I go through faces were I do something every day and the house looks fantastic for a little bit. Then I go through faces were I do nothing.  The problem with that is that I have 2 kids, a hubs and 7 animals. Within a matter of hours my house can go from completely clean to a total mess and I have no idea how it happened. I'm having company over this weekend and I seriously need to get going. Instead what am I doing? Blogging, which I believe I'm worst at doing than actual house work, which is proving the fact of how much I actually hate housework. LOL!

In other news I'm completely caught up on all my shows! Which is important.

Weight lifted off...

I had this epiphany today and decided to do away with things that just weren't making me happy and things that I just didn't need. I cancelled all my scrapbook kit/stamp subscriptions. I had this really cute room. Now I have this un organized mess. The kits just sit there un touched and the stamps have never been inked. Quite honestly I was also spending a fortune and there are more important things in this world than paper and stamps and it's time to start saving for it. I also went through Facebook and un friended a whole bunch of people. If you truly were my "friend" then you should have my number and can reach me that way. I honestly feel so much better. So much lighter. Now I just need to get in that room as use my stash so I can start getting it back in order.

Thrifty Tuesday

I thought I'd start up a new weekly post for my thrift store finds. I love thrifting.  I find it very soothing to just walk around looking and exploring isles and isles of crap. LOL!  It's a hit and miss. Some days I come out with some great finds and some days there is nothing there worth my time.

Here are some tips of things that I've figured out through the years for if you've never been thrifting, it's been a while or went once and hated it.

1. Thrift stores are not known to carry one of a kind items. It's not an Antique mall. There are times were people don't realize what they have, the employees don't know what they have and mark things down very cheaply only for it to be an expensive item in reality.  Go expecting to find "yard sale" items.  Some broken, some in need of some TLC and some in very good condition that makes you feel like you just hit the mother load.

2. Got to the websites. Find out when their sales are.  Goodwill normally runs a different kinds of sale every day.  Go on the days that the sale will benefit you.  Some store also offer coupons if you spend over a certain amount. Print them. They will not likely accept them over the mobile device.

3. Get there early. My favorite store opens at 10 am so I have plenty of time to get there after I take my daughter to school, but if you can't get there when they open get there as early as you can. By mid day the best stuff will more likely be gone.

4. When buying clothes and shoes, make you there is a dressing room.  There is nothing worst than getting home after buying clothes in a store that doesn't have a dressing room and find out that most of it doesn't fit. Even if it was $1 it still is disappointing and will make you not want to do it again.  Bring socks if you're wearing shoes without them to try shoes on. When getting home. Wash all clothes and spray the shoes with disinfectant.

5. Wear comfortable shoes. The store may not look very big, but after looking at every item you pick up carefully to make sure it's in reasonable condition time will pass by quickly. Before you know it it's been two hours, your feet hurt and you're not going to feel like either finishing up the store or going to another one.

6. Bring snacks for yourself and children. Same as number 4 if you're famished by the time you're done you're going to want to go home or stop by a fast food chain and spending more money than you were planning.  For my son I normally pack a lunchbox with a lunchable, a few juice boxes, an apple and fish crackers. Things that are easy for him to eat while in a kart.

7. Bring entertainment for the children.  In this day and age there are so many things that will keep kids entertain.  For me I just use my iphone. I've downloaded plenty of kid friendly apps so my son has plenty of options to keep him entertained.

8. Bring hand sanitizer.  I carry a small purse size bottle with me and clean my hands and the kids hands either after we're done shopping or before snacks are consumed. Your hands end up quite dirty.

9. Most importantly have fun.  Enjoy yourself.  Laugh at the things people donate and laugh at the things the stores are willing to sell.

Yesterday I went to my favorite store,  every Mondays it's an extra 25% off and Goodwill, which is right next door. Goodwill had kids clothes for 99 cents. I came out finding some pretty good deals at both. Here is a pic and a list of what I got.

1. Pasta Machine
2. Thomas the Train toy
3. A bag of 35 bouncy balls of all colors and sizes
4. Strainer
5. 3 books: Sisterhood of the traveling pants 2 and 3 and What's your number
6. Pack of 4 looms
7. Two packs of Toy Story mini notebooks
8. 3 pairs of pants for my little boy
9. A skir from The Limited
10. DKNY Jeans black strapless dress
11. Skirt Slip
12. 6 Door Knobs Heart foam shapes
13. The Pampered Chef Bread Tube-Heart
14. Inline Skates for my son
15. 2 bags of about 15 shirts/skirt hangers

The running total: $36 Not bad Huh?

Michael's Haul

I felt I needed some retail therapy so I decided to hit up Michael's. Man did I come out with some great stuff.  I hope they continue to do clearances like this.  I love digging through stuff to find deals. I'm a huge thrifter and I feel like to find the best deals you have to dig though the bins nobody wants to go into.

Without further ado here is my video:
